The legality of online casinos in the United States of America is discussed. Where is it legal to play?Legal sports betting is quickly spreading throughout the United States thanks to a landmark ruling by the Supreme Court in 2018, though legal online casino action is spreading at a much slower pace.

Currently there are three US states that offer legal online casinos, with a fourth state set to come online sometime in 2020.

The three states that currently offer legal online casino products are:

Pennsylvania
Delaware
Michigan

West Virginia has voted to legalize online casinos as well, though these offerings aren't expected to be online until sometime in 2020.

New Jersey currently has the most complete offering of online casino products, as there are currently 22 companies offering online casino experiences in the state. These companies include Bet365, Golden Nugget, Unibet, Fanduel, Borgata and Tropicana, just to name a few.

If you reside in the great state of New Jersey, you should definitely do your research, as most of these online casinos offer some pretty lucrative sign-up bonuses, thanks to the industry being so competitive in the state.

Pennsylvania's online casino market went live in 2019, so there are less offerings currently online in the state. Having said that, there are more than a dozen sites to choose from, including offerings from Parx Casino, Mount Airy Casino and Valley Forge Casino.

Delaware's online casino market is quite small, as Delaware Park, Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway are the three companies that are currently permitted to operate in the state.

Online casino games and online poker are seen as being significantly less lucrative than sports betting, which is why states have been slower to adopt them both.

In addition, online poker and online casino offerings are trickier to regulate, as the software is subject to quite a bit more scrutiny.

With that being said, the wheels of online casino legalization are rolling in the United States, albeit quite slowly.
